All members of the Western Washington University community, including Whatcom Community College and Northwest Indian College, are invited to avail themselves of these various facilities and services. Some restrictions may apply.
The VU's hours when school is in session are:
During intersessions, the hours are 8 am - 5 pm, M-F.
Summer hours when school is in session are: 7:00 am to 5 pm, M - F.
The Associated Students provide for recognition of student clubs and organizations. A packet of information "How to Form an Associated Students Club or Organization" is available in VU 547 which delineates the process to follow.
Student elections are held Tuesday and Wednesday of the last full week of April each year. Prior to that time, the Election Coordinator will ensure that appropriate advertising concerning how to run for office is made available to the campus community. During the filing period, candidates may pick up a candidate's packet which includes: the Election Code, job description for the position sought, registration form, complaint form, petition form, and financial statement.
The Viking Union Administrative Office (VU 547) maintains a list of all active campus organizations, provides packets for seeking recognition of organizations and clubs, and can direct you to other information sources.
The Associated Students Personnel Office (VU 505) maintains a listing of available jobs within its organization. The Center For Student Work Experience (OM-285) maintains job descriptions and existing openings for students both on and off campus. The University's Human Resources Department (OM-361) maintains a listing of full- and part-time staff positions available on campus.
The Viking Union Information Desk (650-3120) maintains schedules of events on campus; including, but not limited to, athletic events, movies, concerts, colloquium, dances, etc. There is an online calendar of events.
All student organizations and programs may reserve space through the Viking Union Reservations Office (650-6131) in both the Union and other facilities on campus. University Departments must reserve space in the Union or Lakewood by contacting VU Reservations or elsewhere on campus by contacting Classroom Scheduling/Registrar's Office (650-3758).

Located on the south shore of Lake Whatcom, at 2035 Lake Whatcom Blvd., the Lakewood Watersports Facility is approximately eight miles from Western's Main Campus via Chestnut Street, Lakeway Drive, and Lake Whatcom Blvd. Over 60 watercraft, ranging from sailboards, to one-person Lasers, two-person Alphas, rowboats, canoes and kayaks provide hours of enjoyment for the Western Community. In addition, the site has a sand volleyball court, picnic tables and BBQ's, hiking trails, and a Ropes Challenge Course. Beginning, intermediate, advanced and instructor sailing classes are offered through the Physical Education Department, as well as via private lessons. Western's Crew program is also located here.
Reached via private or chartered boat, seaplane or the summer foot ferry, Viqueen Lodge is located on Sinclair Island near the San Juan Islands. The Lodge is approximately 45 minutes from Bellingham or Anacortes. Extensive beach walks, interior island dirt roads ideal for mountain biking, salmon fishing and just being lazy highlight the activities at this popular facility. The rustic atmosphere, with no electricity, is softened by propane lights, stove, and fridge, as well as an air-tight wood stove for heating.
The Vice President for Student Affairs Office has administrative authority for the campus Cold Beverage Contract. A Cold Beverage Contract Student Committee (which includes faculty) carefully considers priorities and makes recommendations for one-time funding to the Vice President for Student Affairs. The campus is invited to submit proposals for programs and projects; forms are available on the Cold Beverage Contract website.
