HOW CAN I LEARN TO KAYAK, SAIL OR WINDSURF AT LAKEWOOD?
There is a range of classes offered by the Physical Education department and the Lakewood staff. These include kayak touring, sailing, racing, and sailing instructor training. WHERE IS LAKEWOOD?
Lakewood is located approximately 7 miles from Western's main campus at 2410 Lake Whatcom Blvd. on the beautiful shore of Lake Whatcom.

WHAT ALL DOES LAKEWOOD HAVE TO OFFER?
Located on beautiful Lake Whatcom, this 4,000-square-foot log facility contains a boat house, meeting lounge, and locker rooms. Over 60 watercraft, ranging from sailboards, to one-person Lasers, two-person Alphas, canoes and kayaks, Keelboats and standup paddle boards provide hours of enjoyment for the Western Community. In addition, there are picnic tables and BBQ's, hiking trails, and a Ropes Challenge Course. Beginning, intermediate, advanced and instructor sailing classes are offered through the Physical Education Department, as well as via private lessons. Lakewood is also home to the WWU Men's Crew Team and the WWU Sailing Team.
Lakewood also has the Bill McDonald Lounge. A wonderful, cozy room for social gatherings, retreats, meetings and more!

We close due to poor weather and we may open due to good weather when we are not scheduled to be open. Please call the boathouse at (360) 650-2900 for updates. The boathouse is closed during some holidays and academic recesses.
THE BOATHOUSE
WHO CAN USE THE BOATHOUSE EQUIPMENT?
Any member of Western Washington University, Whatcom Community College or Northwest Indian College's communities are welcome. WWU Alumni are also invited to come enjoy beautiful, serene Lakewood. Please remember to bring a piece of Campus I.D. with you during your visit. To use a windsurfer or sailboat, guests must go through an orientation that includes demonstration of basic practical skills.

The Lakewood boathouse offers students and faculty waterfront access to beautiful Lake Whatcom. With such amenities as canoes, kayaks, windsurfers, Stand up Paddle Boards and sailing boats, Lakewood's boathouse is sure to have equipment that any student or faculty member will enjoy.
